Why Membership Matters
Does it really matter if I’m a member of a church or not? Why do I have to take a class to even become a member? People often ask these questions about our membership process, skeptical as to why there seem to be so many “hoops” to jump through. It’s true. We take membership seriously and with a lot of gravity. Committing yourself to a body of believers is weighty. But it’s also wonderful. When Covenant Members join, they commit to a spiritual family that provides encouragement and support. They are called to a biblical degree of responsibility, service, and sacrifice to their brothers and sisters in Christ. Our elders and leaders also pledge to assist our Covenant Members with care, counsel, prayer, and teaching.
Next Steps
Step 1: Express Interest
You can do this by contacting the church office or filling out a Connection Card on Sunday mornings. One of our staff will then let you know when the next membership class will be taking place.
Step 2: Attend a Membership Class
These classes cover some of our core beliefs about Jesus, the church, and why church membership is important. Participating in this class does not obligate you to join but is a necessary step in pursuing membership at Reata.
Step 3: Meet with the Pastor
Upon completing the Membership Class, our pastor will contact you to set up a time to meet together during which you will have an opportunity to share your testimony.
Step 4: Agree with Reata’s Statement of Faith and Covenant
Our statement of faith can be found on the website under the “Beliefs” section. The covenant will be handed out during the Membership Class.
Step 5: Fill Out a Membership Application
This will be given to you at the Membership Class.
